"Thank you God"
"A Brief moment that will last a lifetime"
On January 30, 2009 Shaunna Arella Merritt was born into this world "alive." I say alive becuase she beat out all of the doctors odds. No one thought she would make it though labor. They had all of the baby heart monitors turned off for this very reason. She was born at 5:49AM weighing 5 lbs 1oz. and was 17 in. long.
As soon as she was put on my chest I figured she was gone. Becuase of her condition she was not able to cry. But as soon as she was on my chest, and cleaned off, she started to make cute little cries. Along with being told that Shaunna was most likely not going to make it through birth, we were told that she would never make a sound. Well, our little fighter did it! She was a fighter and lived through birth and even 3 hours after. We were blessed to hear Shaunna make her cute little noises throughout her first hour of life. She even peeked one eye open. Those are two memories that I will never forget.
Shaunna was born with a very special birth mark. The birth mark was on her cheek, and I could have sworn it was just blood. I even wasn't convinced after she had been cleaned up, so I tried to wash it off. I didnt think it would be possible. She had the perfect little heart on her cheek. It was her way of telling us that she loved us.
